Universal Serial Bus, or USB is a cable connection method used on all computer systems. This allows you to transfer data between one device and another, such as a computer and digital camera, hard drive, or other mobile device. There have been several main upgrades with the USB connection, and most recently the USB 3.0 came out. This is one of the fastest data transfering methods available today, and if you are into editing videos and graphic editing, you most likely want to have this installed on your computer. However, not all operating systems support USB 3.0, so if you are looking to buy a new computer, you need to opt for a computer that supports this feature.
USB 3.0 did not come out until the Windows 7 operating system was in full swing. These are the only PC computers that are going to come with a USB connection. However, you can install it onto a Vista computer, although you do need to upgrade the hardware for it to work.
For a Mac, the connection is available on the Mac OS X Lion operating system. Outside of that, it is rather difficult to upgrade the equipment on older models of Macs.
